Learn How To Use A Repeater
I had a difficult time trying to use the local repeaters. I was doing everything wrong! I was using my HT from inside my vehicle (using the "rubber duck" antenna). I was using the wrong frequencies (input/output/shotput). I didn't have the proper CTCSS (PL) tones programmed into my HT. AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!

I finally did some searching and found the following sites which helped me in a big way. Before you try to use the repeaters, I encourage you to visit these sites so you won't make some of the same mistakes I did:

How to Use Amateur (Ham Radio) Repeaters - A New Ham's Guide to Repeaters - I found this site helpful when I was having issues trying to use one of the local repeaters.
Newton Kansas Amateur Radio Club - They have a nice PowerPoint slideshow you can download.

Full Local Repeater Lists
